Vijayanagar Vista, Vastness & Visionary Ventures

The Hot Strip Mill of the 5 metric tons per annum project at Vijayanagar, led by wholly owned subsidiary JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd, was commissioned in March 2024, marking a milestone in the group’s expansion. The Raw Material Handling System, Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace, one converter at the Steel Melting Shop unit & both casters have also been commissioned. Company sources revealed, “The second converter at the Steel Melting Shop is expected to be commissioned in the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, further enhancing production capacity & operational resilience.”

Odisha Odyssey & Ongoing Optimism

The company is also making significant progress on its 30 metric tons per annum slurry pipeline project in Odisha, which has been transferred to JSW Infrastructure Ltd. The project is moving steadily & is targeted to be commissioned in fiscal year 2027. This pipeline is expected to support long-term raw material security & streamline logistics, strengthening JSW's integrated supply chain strategy.

Dolvi Determination & Development Dynamics

At Dolvi, the phase-three expansion aims to increase capacity from 10 metric tons per annum to 15 metric tons per annum. The company has already ordered long lead time items & established letters of credit to meet the project’s timelines. As per management, “Completion is scheduled by September 2027, reflecting our commitment to meet rising domestic & export market demands.”

Downstream Drive & Diversification Designs

In May, JSW’s board approved two downstream projects to boost value-added product offerings. These include a 0.6 metric tons per annum Cold Rolling Mill at Khopoli for galvanised, galvalume & zinc-magnesium coated products catering to appliances, general engineering & renewables, and a 0.4 metric tons per annum Continuous Galvanising Line at Vijayanagar. This galvanising line is specially designed to supply advanced high-strength steel for the automotive industry, supporting tensile strengths up to 1480 mega pascal, which aligns with evolving auto industry requirements.

CRNO Crusade & Capacity Catalysts

Further, the board has cleared a 0.55 metric tons per annum Cold Rolled Non-Grain Oriented steel facility at Vijayanagar. This unit will address the growing domestic need for electrical steel used in generators, motors & transformers, helping local industries become less dependent on imports & encouraging indigenous manufacturing.

Capex Commitment & Calculated Capital Course

During the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, the company's consolidated capital expenditure spend stood at $3400 crore, with a projection to invest around $20000 crore during fiscal year 2026. According to management statements, this robust capex reflects JSW's strategic intent to build capacity, enhance downstream offerings & embrace cleaner, more efficient production technologies.

Strategic Synergies & Sustained Strengthening

Through a balanced mix of upstream, midstream & downstream projects, JSW aims to expand both scale & scope of its operations. As company executives noted, “These investments are crafted not just to increase volumes, but to deepen product mix, improve quality & ensure sustainable growth across cycles.” The focus remains on strengthening operational efficiency & aligning capacity with long-term market trends.
