Steady Steel Statistics Signal Sturdy Strength

JSW Steel Limited’s consolidated crude steel production for Q1 FY26 stood at 7.26 million metric tons, up by 14% year on year. Capacity utilization at Indian operations reached 87% during the quarter, compared to 93% in Q4 FY25, affected by planned maintenance shutdowns. The company also highlighted that retail sales volumes rose by 12% year on year, reflecting continued demand strength across segments.

 

Spirited Sales Spur Solid Steel Story

Total steel sales during the quarter were 6.69 million metric tons, a rise of 9% year on year. Domestic sales grew by 12% to 5.96 million metric tons, while exports fell by 20% year on year, now making up 7% of Indian operations sales for Q1 FY26. “Our strategy to focus on domestic demand paid off despite export headwinds,” a company spokesperson noted.

 

Strategic Surge Secures Stronger EBITDA Margins

JSW Steel recorded revenue from operations of ₹43,147 crores with an operating EBITDA of ₹7,576 crores, marking a 37% year on year increase. The EBITDA margin for the quarter was 17.6%, driven by higher volumes and lower coking coal costs. Net profit after tax reached ₹2,209 crores, underlining effective cost controls and robust demand.

 

Sturdy Standalone Showcases Sustained Sales

Standalone crude steel production for the quarter was 5.34 million metric tons, up 1% year on year. Steel sales stood at 5.26 million metric tons, rising by 3% year on year. Revenue from operations at ₹31,613 crores fell slightly by 3%, but operating EBITDA rose by 31% year on year to ₹5,585 crores, reflecting efficiency gains.

 

Significant Strength in Indian Operations Performance

Indian operations alone produced 7.02 million metric tons of crude steel, growing by 15% year on year, with sales volumes at 6.43 million metric tons, higher by 9%. Revenue from operations reached ₹40,510 crores, while operating EBITDA surged 38% year on year to ₹7,496 crores. EBITDA per metric ton was ₹11,658, with a margin of 18.5%. Profit after tax rose to ₹2,517 crores, an impressive 118% year on year increase.

Domestic finished steel consumption grew by 7.9% year on year to 38.34 million metric tons, while India’s crude steel production rose by 10.4% year on year to 40.31 million metric tons. The management attributed this to continued government-led infrastructure investments. “The outlook remains steady, with demand supported by policy measures and healthy capex,” the company shared. 

 

Stalwart Subsidiaries Show Staunch Support

Bhushan Power & Steel produced 0.88 million metric tons with revenue of ₹4,998 crores & profit after tax of ₹331 crores. JSW Vijayanagar Metallics produced 0.75 million metric tons, earning revenue of ₹4,935 crores & profit after tax of ₹182 crores. JSW Steel Coated Products registered production of 1.13 million metric tons, revenue of ₹8,637 crores & profit of ₹248 crores.

 

Steady Subsidiary Success Stories Showcase Global Growth

In the USA, the Ohio unit produced 0.26 million metric tons with EBITDA of $1.35 million, while the Texas Plate & Pipe mill produced 0.14 million metric tons of plates, reporting EBITDA of $19.04 million. Italy’s operations produced 0.07 million metric tons but EBITDA fell to €1.33 million due to lower realisations. “Diversified subsidiaries help mitigate market risks,” said the operations head.

 

Stalwart Structure Strengthens Debt Discipline

Net debt to equity stood at 0.95x at Q1 end, similar to 0.94x in Q4 FY25. Net debt to EBITDA was 3.20x, slightly improved from 3.34x in Q4 FY25. Net debt rose by ₹3,287 crores to ₹79,850 crores mainly due to working capital investments. The company reaffirmed commitment to prudent capital structure & efficient debt management.
