Tata Steel NL: Chromium's Calamitous Cloud & Ijmuiden's Imperilled Ingot

Tata Steel Nederland shut down its Ijmuiden direct sheet plant on April 3, 2026, after chrome 6 emissions exceeded permitted limits. The company identified the cause & made technical adjustments, then began trial runs from April 22 solely for emissions measurement. The plant, which produces one point four million metric tons of hot rolled steel per year, stays closed until the North Sea Canal Area Environment Service clears it for permanent restart.
