Resilient Renaissance & Revolutionary Refinement Rev Up Arvedi
2025年7月18日星期五
Synopsis: -
Arvedi AST, a leading European stainless steelmaker, is working with French engineering giant Fives to upgrade its cold annealing and pickling line. The project introduces CELES EcoTransFlux induction heaters, Virtuo thermal control and AI-based cooling to boost output, reduce emissions and enhance quality. CTO Gian Luca Gigli emphasises its role in Arvedi AST’s decarbonisation plan, while Fives’ Vice President Steve Decroix highlights a shared vision for sustainable, intelligent manufacturing.
Pioneering Partnership & Purposeful Progress Pursued
In a significant stride towards modernisation, Arvedi AST, one of Europe’s most respected stainless steel producers based in Italy, has partnered with Fives, a renowned French engineering firm. The collaboration aims to transform Arvedi AST’s cold annealing and pickling line, a critical stage in stainless steel production that directly affects quality, productivity and environmental impact.
Chief Technology Officer Gian Luca Gigli explains, “Arvedi AST has chosen Fives as its technology partner for the project, relying on the company’s undisputed leadership in transverse flux induction heating technology and integrated digital solutions.” This partnership fits neatly within Arvedi AST’s broader decarbonisation roadmap, seeking to combine operational excellence with environmental responsibility.
Transcendent Technology & Thermal Transformation Triumph
At the heart of the upgrade lies CELES EcoTransFlux, an advanced transverse flux induction heater. Compact yet powerful, this system delivers extremely rapid heating even for non-magnetic steel grades, overcoming previous bottlenecks when shifting between products. As a result, Arvedi AST expects output gains exceeding 16% on some product lines.
Besides boosting throughput, CELES EcoTransFlux drastically cuts emissions. Its induction method avoids burning fuel, reducing NO₂ and CO₂ release into the atmosphere, aligning with European climate goals. The technology not only increases production speed but also contributes to cleaner air and lower carbon footprints.
Virtuous Virtuo & Visionary Variables Validated
Complementing rapid induction heating is Virtuo, Fives’ proprietary thermal process solution. Virtuo employs predictive modelling to manage furnace heating power dynamically, ensuring precise temperature transitions regardless of operator shifts. This innovation minimises thermal stress, preserves mechanical properties and reduces coil rejections by over 5%.
Virtuo’s data-driven control lowers gas consumption, reflecting the growing importance of energy efficiency in heavy industry. The system’s ability to adjust in real time translates to tangible benefits: higher yields, reduced waste and better product consistency, critical in competitive markets.
Artificial Acumen & Adaptive Algorithms Amplified
Fives is also introducing an AI-based cooling model to the production line. This system controls the cooling speed of the steel strip, balancing cooling rates to protect metallurgical properties while reducing defects. By responding to live process data, the AI keeps cooling within optimal ranges, regardless of external conditions or product changes.
Steve Decroix, Vice President of Steel Services and Digital Sales at Fives, says, “We are proud to collaborate with Arvedi AST in advancing intelligent manufacturing systems and sustainable process innovations that redefine the future of stainless steel production in the plant.” His statement underscores Fives’ strategy of integrating digital intelligence to meet customer needs.
Sustainable Strategy & Strategic Stewardship Stressed
For Arvedi AST, this upgrade isn’t only about output, but about future readiness. Gian Luca Gigli notes, “We firmly believe that the electrification of processes and the implementation of advanced digital solutions, including sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms, are an integral part of our decarbonisation plan for the strategic development of the site.”
This vision aligns with EU climate policies encouraging industrial electrification and digitalisation to cut emissions and improve competitiveness. The enhancements also help Arvedi AST better serve industries demanding low-carbon, premium stainless steel, such as automotive, food and construction.
Operational Optimisation & Organisational Outcomes Observed
The benefits extend beyond immediate production increases. The upgrade lays the groundwork for long-term resilience by integrating technology adaptable to market changes and stricter regulations. Previously, Arvedi AST installed Eyeron, Fives’ intelligent quality management system, to improve traceability and detect anomalies early.
Together, Eyeron, Virtuo, CELES EcoTransFlux and AI cooling build a digital backbone supporting consistent quality, lower rejections and reduced environmental impact. The investment demonstrates how digital transformation can future-proof traditional industries.
