Turkish Transition: Transcendent Trading Transforms Terrain
Turkey's Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, & Climate Change published detailed monitoring, reporting, & verification results for 2024, outlining the structure for the national Emissions Trading System launching its pilot phase in 2026-2027. The system covers over 800 installations including 107 steel facilities generating 33.3 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, representing 12% of national emissions. The benchmark-based free allocation methodology mirrors European Union systems, protecting competitiveness while incentivizing efficiency improvements. Full implementation runs 2028-2035 following Climate Law No. 7552 adoption.
