Swiss Steel's Scintillating Substitution Scheme
Swiss Steel Group trials hydrogen to replace natural gas in steel processing under EU-funded HYDREAMS project. Initial tests on 13 steel grades show no negative material impacts. The company plans three industrial demonstrators by 2026. Partnership alongside Lhyfe targets 12 metric tons daily green hydrogen capacity. The initiative could eliminate 16,000 metric tons CO₂ annually. Steel industry contributes 8% of global emissions, making decarbonization essential for environmental compliance.
