Safeguard Sanctions: Steel's Sudden Surge Sparks Scrutiny

India's trade authority concluded its safeguard investigation into steel flat products following complaints from major domestic producers. The investigation examined allegations of sudden import increases causing serious injury to domestic steel industry. A provisional 12% safeguard duty was implemented in April 2025 for 200 days. The case involved 272 interested parties including foreign governments & automotive companies. Final findings will determine permanent protection measures for India's steel sector.
