Britain's Bold CBAM Blueprint: Carbon's Calculated & Calibrated Codex

The United Kingdom has published its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism framework, setting out how embedded carbon emissions in imported goods will be calculated and verified. Steel is among the key sectors covered. The mechanism will apply a carbon price to imports equivalent to what domestic producers pay under the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, levelling the competitive playing field. Importers must obtain verified emissions data from supplying facilities or use default values. The framework runs in parallel with the EU's own carbon border mechanism, creating dual compliance requirements for exporters supplying both markets.
