An Indiana University study finds that investing in new technologies at Northwest Indiana's Calumet Region steel mills can cut pollution, protect jobs, and keep the industry competitive. The region's mills are among the largest sources of industrial air pollution in the United States, yet they also employ tens of thousands of workers in well-paying jobs. The study challenges the idea that environmental protection and industrial employment are in conflict, offering a clear roadmap for modernising one of America's most important steel-producing regions.
