The Global Steel Climate Council wants one universal carbon standard for all steelmakers. Current rules treat electric arc furnaces as clean and blast furnaces as dirty regardless of actual emissions. The council includes Nucor, Steel Dynamics, and the Steel Manufacturers Association. A uniform benchmark would allow investors and buyers to compare producers directly. The goal aligns with the 1.5°C climate pathway by 2050.
