EU steel imports jumped 14% in 2025. A record 53% surge in the last quarter pushed the import share of consumption to 29%. This flood of foreign metal widened the bloc's monthly steel trade deficit to 2 million metric tons. Indonesia’s shipments grew an astonishing 263%, while China increased exports by 31%. Imports from India, however, fell sharply by 28%.
