Italian steelmaker Acciaierie Bertoli Safau has broken ground on a new hybrid, digital, and green steel plant in northeastern Italy. The facility combines electric arc furnace technology with the ability to use recycled scrap and direct reduced iron, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by up to seventy percent compared to conventional steelmaking. Full digitalisation, including artificial intelligence process control and digital twin systems, is built into the plant from the ground up. The investment positions the company as a European leader in next-generation, low-carbon steel manufacturing.
