Ventyr Vision & Vast Ventures Validate Verdant Voyage

Ventyr’s commitment to renewable energy has taken a bold leap through Sørlige Nordsjø II, envisioned as Norway’s first bottom-fixed offshore wind farm. This project covers about 520 square kilometers in the southern North Sea, situated nearly 200 kilometers from Norway’s south-west coast, adjacent to Danish waters. The location was selected for its consistent wind resources, strategic maritime access & potential to supply substantial clean electricity to Norwegian and European grids, supporting national and EU climate goals.

DNV Diligence & Design Diplomacy Deliver Decarbonisation Drive

In a landmark move, Ventyr awarded DNV the Design Certification contract to oversee critical elements of the wind farm’s development. This certification covers wind turbines, their foundations, and the offshore substation, aiming to ensure safety, longevity & adherence to Norwegian regulations alongside international engineering norms. DNV’s decades of global offshore wind experience uniquely position it to guide the project through complex technical requirements and harsh offshore conditions.

Subsea Standards & Safety Strategies Shape Sovereign Strength

Operating in the unpredictable North Sea environment requires structures that can endure extreme weather, high waves & powerful currents. Certification guarantees that turbines remain stable, substations withstand intense wind loads, and all installations function efficiently over decades. This technical rigor safeguards investor confidence, public trust, and national energy security, reducing operational risks and unexpected downtime once the farm is operational.

Collaborative Credentials & Coastal Commitments Cultivate Confidence

Ventyr’s Project Director, Wim Verrept, emphasised that robust certification is key to achieving Norway’s offshore ambitions, stating: “We are proud to partner with DNV to ensure Sørlige Nordsjø II meets the highest standards from the outset.” This reflects a larger trend in offshore energy, partnerships between developers, technical experts, local authorities & regulators to combine vision, compliance, and execution into a cohesive strategy.

DNV Dedication & Decades Drive Deep Domain Dominance

Kim Sandgaard-Mørk, Executive Vice President for Renewables Certification at DNV, hailed the contract as a milestone in Norway’s offshore renewables journey. DNV’s history includes certifying projects in challenging offshore environments worldwide, from the North Sea to Asia-Pacific, giving it unparalleled insight into turbine design, seabed conditions, and evolving regulatory landscapes. This expertise supports Ventyr’s ambition to deliver Norway’s first large-scale offshore wind farm.

Nordic Nexus & North Sea Notability Nurture New Narratives

The Sørlige Nordsjø II project contributes to a broader narrative positioning the North Sea as the global hub for offshore wind. DNV’s North Sea Outlook forecasts over 150 GW of offshore wind capacity by mid-century, potentially transforming regional economies and decarbonising large industrial sectors. Norway’s entry into this market is not just symbolic; it offers economic diversification, job creation & energy resilience amid evolving European demand for low-carbon power.

Sovereign Standards & Structural Safety Strengthen Sustainability

Anne Lene Haukanes Hopstad, Principal Engineer & Project Manager at DNV, highlighted how certification verifies that turbines & substations are designed to handle strong currents and turbulent winds, while aligning with Norway’s strict regulatory requirements and international engineering standards. Beyond technical documents, certification fosters transparency and accountability, building confidence among stakeholders, communities and policymakers.

Transition Testament & Technical Tenacity Transform Tomorrow

Sørlige Nordsjø II is more than turbines on the horizon; it embodies Norway’s energy transition, blending policy ambition with engineering precision. Through Ventyr’s leadership and DNV’s expertise, the project illustrates how robust standards, innovation and collaboration can translate ambitious climate targets into practical infrastructure that supports generations to come.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ventyr selected DNV to certify the design of turbines & substations for Sørlige Nordsjø II.

  • Spanning 520 square kilometers in the southern North Sea, it is Norway’s first bottom-fixed offshore wind farm.

  • Certification ensures infrastructure meets Norwegian regulations & global standards, enhancing safety, sustainability & investor confidence.
