Comprising 10–30% manganese, this steel offers superior strength, wear resistance, and cryogenic toughness, making it ideal for applications in naval shipbuilding. Its non-magnetic properties are particularly advantageous in reducing the risk of detonation from magnetic sea mines, a critical consideration in naval operations.

 

Strategic Significance: Enhancing Naval Defense Capabilities

The collaboration between POSCO and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is poised to bolster South Korea's defense industry by incorporating HMS into the construction of advanced naval vessels.
