POSCO's Perspicacious Pursuit: Lithium's Lucrative Leap
POSCO Holdings announced strategic lithium investments totaling over $840 million across Australian mines & Argentine salt lakes. The company will invest $765 million for 30% equity in Wodgina & Mt Marion mines in Australia, securing 270,000 metric tons of annual lithium concentrate. Additionally, POSCO acquires Hombre Muerto salt lake mining rights in Argentina for ₩100 billion, expanding its brine resource portfolio. These investments target 93,000 metric tons annual lithium production capacity by 2026, positioning POSCO among global top-ten producers. The strategy combines hard-rock spodumene & salt lake brine resources, providing product diversification & supply security for battery materials markets.
