DNV & RSI Reveal Regulatory Roadblocks Restraining Fleet Renewal

DNV & the Responsible Shipping Initiative completed a comprehensive study revealing how regulatory gaps hinder decarbonization of Europe's short sea dry bulk fleet. The research, co-funded by Sweden's Transport Administration, found that vessels under 5000 GT lack regulatory incentives for green investments despite cargo owner environmental commitments. The study employed sophisticated modeling to establish emissions baselines & calculated substantial cost premiums for alternative fuel vessels, while identifying the need for coordinated solutions across regulatory, commercial, & technical domains to achieve meaningful decarbonization progress.
