Crumb Carbon Conundrum Cultivates Cleaner Casting
SSAB Alabama, supported by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, trialed crumb rubber from scrap tires to partly replace petroleum coke in steelmaking. The tests showed no adverse effects on steel quality or emissions. This project could reuse up to 2,100 metric tons of scrap tires annually, easing landfill strain while making steel production greener. Backed by state policy, it points to how industry & environment can progress together.
