Volkswagen's Vexatious Valediction: Venerable Venue Vanishes
Volkswagen shutters its Dresden manufacturing facility, marking the first German plant closure in 88 years of company history. The decision forms part of a restructuring agreement eliminating 35,000 positions by 2030 amid cash flow pressures from declining China & Europe sales, US tariffs, & Chinese electric vehicle competition. The Dresden site, operational since 2002 producing under 200,000 vehicles, will become a Technical University research campus. Chief Financial Officer Arno Antlitz projects only slightly positive 2025 cash flow alongside continued 2026 financial pressure as Volkswagen simultaneously invests in electric vehicles & combustion engine development.
