US Steel: Granite Grit & Cyclical Comeback

U. S. Steel will restart Blast Furnace B at Granite City Works in Illinois after months of studying customer orders, saying the move is needed to meet 2026 demand in a highly cyclical steel market. Chief executive David Burritt stresses safe, profitable operation & promises to work to the United Steelworkers & local officials on a smooth start up. The decision comes as the company also invests in electric arc furnaces & lower CO₂ steels under a net zero 2050 pledge, highlighting the tension between legacy blast capacity & future green routes.
