Cikande’s Caesium Contamination Crisis Confounds Commerce
Indonesian authorities have confirmed radioactive contamination in shrimp linked to a steel plant in the Cikande industrial zone. The contamination, identified as Caesium-137, originated from imported scrap metal used by the plant. The government has designated the area a serious incident zone and is re-exporting contaminated containers. Officials assure the public the incident is contained and has not affected the national food supply.
