On July 7, 2025, a section of the coke oven gallery at SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant collapsed, fortunately without injuries, but halting production in affected units. The incident adds to a series of fires, gas leaks, and a fatal crane accident at the plant since late 2024. A technical committee has been formed to assess and repair the structure. Worker unions are calling for urgent modernisation and stricter maintenance to prevent future failures.
