Germany's steel industry body WV Stahl has welcomed the European Union's new steel trade safeguard regulation, set to take effect from 1 July 2026. President Gunnar Groebler called it a strong signal for German & European steel production, while urging swift implementation to prevent circumvention. The regulation sets tariff-free import quotas & imposes a 50% duty on excess volumes. WV Stahl also raised concerns that a carry-forward quota clause could concentrate imports & distort an already fragile European steel market.
