USA: Tariff's Tumultuous Toll: Producers Prosper, Purchasers Perish

One year after the United States imposed a 50% tariff on steel imports, domestic producers see higher prices & rising output. But downstream industries face sharply higher costs. US hot rolled steel now trades at over $1,200 per metric ton, more than double Asian prices. Construction spending is falling & manufacturing employment remains flat. The steel industry is investing heavily, but the broader industrial revival promised by the tariff has yet to fully arrive.
