The European Union has published revised steel import quotas giving the United Kingdom access to two point one four million metric tons of tariff-free exports. UK Steel & Tata Steel UK warn this marks a sixty percent reduction in guaranteed access, threatening the sector's viability. Around seventy percent of UK steel exports go to the EU, making the market critical. Both producers are urging continued bilateral negotiations to secure fairer, workable access terms.
