CBAM Calibration: Britain's Belated Boundary Breakthrough

The United Kingdom postponed including indirect emissions in its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism until at least 2029, announced November 30, 2025. The government will maintain the 2027 start date for direct manufacturing emissions coverage. This change addresses industry concerns about measurement complexity & competitive fairness. Indirect emissions from electricity consumption prove difficult to attribute accurately across diverse national power grids. The deferral provides time for methodological development & international coordination, particularly alongside the European Union's similar carbon border framework.
