Tata's Tenacious Transformation: Port Talbot's Pellucid Green Pivot
Tata Steel UK is transforming its Port Talbot steelworks in Wales from coal-fired blast furnaces to a new electric arc furnace. The UK government is backing the project with five hundred million pounds in funding. The switch is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by around five million metric tons every year. Port Talbot will shift from using iron ore to recycled scrap steel, making it one of the greenest flat steel producers in Europe.
