Timmins to Lucerne: A Transatlantic Trove of Verdant Steel
Swiss Steel Group & Canada Nickel Company plan a long-term partnership to ship low-carbon steel from Canada to Europe & North America. From 2030, the Swiss firm would get about one million tonnes a year of semi-finished steel made in Northern Ontario. The steel would come from Canada Nickel's huge Crawford nickel project near Timmins, using clean Canadian energy. The deal was signed on 23 October 2026. A final construction decision on the mine is expected in 2027.
