Cyanide's Clandestine Creep Curtails SSAB's Luleå Colossus
SSAB has stopped construction at its new steel mill in Luleå, Sweden, after gas detectors picked up low levels of hydrogen cyanide on site. The readings remain below safety limits and no workers have fallen ill. This is the second work stoppage at the site in 2026, following a pause in April linked to worker illness. SSAB says it will expand its monitoring program with external experts and does not expect the pause to affect the project's overall schedule or budget.
