Swiss pioneers Bertrand Piccard & André Borschberg complete the world's first solar-powered round-the-world flight on 26 July 2016. Their aircraft, Solar Impulse 2, carries 17,248 solar cells & weighs just 2,300 kilograms despite a wingspan wider than a Boeing 747. The journey covers 40,000 kilometres across 17 countries over 16 months. André Borschberg sets a world record flying solo from Japan to Hawaii in nearly 118 hours. The project inspires the Solar Impulse Foundation's certification of over 1,000 viable clean technology solutions.
