Sev.en Energy: Carboniferous Capitulation: Czech Coal's Calamitous Closure

Sev.en Energy Group announced plans to shut down three major Czech coal-fired power plants by spring 2027, citing unfavorable economics & emission allowance uncertainties. The facilities at Chvaletice, Počerady, & Kladno face deteriorating market conditions as renewable energy expansion & carbon pricing escalation undermine brown coal generation profitability. The company provided early closure notification to allow government response time, acknowledging their business has "lost its economic sense." While 2026 may achieve acceptable performance through forward contracts, the 2027 outlook appears bleak due to emission costs & competitive pressures from renewable generation.
