The SBTi has launched Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard, the most comprehensive framework yet. It shifts focus from target-setting to implementation, introducing a 'best efforts' approach and a new recognition mechanism.

The standard introduces differentiated company categories based on size and geography, with Category A companies facing stricter requirements. Scope 1, 2, and 3 targets are now separated, and integrity criteria for low-carbon electricity are strengthened.

Companies can continue using Version 1.3.1 until January 31, 2028. The SBTi recommends companies not delay target-setting and proceed using the current version, with Version 2.0 becoming mandatory for all new submissions from February 2028.
