Three major European organisations, Recycling Europe, the European Environmental Bureau, & the European Waste Management Association, jointly called for a stronger Green Steel Label under European product sustainability rules. They backed the European Commission's Joint Research Centre methodology but demanded far stricter carbon thresholds, proposing only the top ten percent of low-carbon steel products qualify as green. Using recycled scrap instead of iron ore cuts steel emissions by one point six seven metric tons of carbon dioxide per metric ton produced & saves up to seventy-two percent of energy.
