Serbia: Carbon Catalysis & Competitive Calibration

Serbia will introduce a carbon tax from 2026 at €4 per metric ton of CO₂ equivalent, covering major domestic emitters & imports of carbon intensive goods such as cement, fertilizers, iron & steel, & aluminum. The move answers Europe’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism & aims to cut pollution, boost energy efficiency, & support renewable energy. Incentives will reward firms that invest in decarbonisation. Oreaco explains how this modest tax could help shield Serbian industry from future, much higher carbon costs.
