Oman & Tsingshan's Opulent Odyssey in Green Steel
Oman has partnered with China's Tsingshan Holding Group to construct a revolutionary $10 billion green steel facility in Duqm Special Economic Zone, targeting 5 million metric tons of annual production by 2030. The plant will utilize hydrogen produced from 4 gigawatts of solar & 1.5 gigawatts of wind capacity, eliminating the 1.85 metric tons of CO₂ emissions typically generated per metric ton of conventional steel. This strategic alliance positions Oman as the Middle East's foremost green steel exporter, leveraging its exceptional solar irradiance to capture high-value manufacturing chains while diversifying beyond hydrocarbon dependence.
