Dutch Truck Tax Triggers Transport-Cost Tremors
The Netherlands has introduced a kilometre-based truck levy affecting domestic & foreign heavy vehicles. A Euro 5 truck is charged €0.236 per kilometre, creating additional costs for freight operators. The measure is already influencing logistics planning across steel distribution, where companies must decide whether to absorb charges or pass them through to customers. The Dutch steel federation has developed calculation tools to help members estimate exposure. The policy also reflects Europe's broader shift toward road-use charging & more detailed freight-cost accounting.
