POSCO & Hyundai Steel’s Strategic Sojourn & Southern Synergy
Hyundai Steel and POSCO have commenced construction on a $5.8 billion steel mill in Louisiana. The facility will produce 2.7 million metric tons of low-carbon steel annually starting in 2029. It will use electric arc furnace technology to cut emissions by 70% compared to conventional methods. The investment is a strategic response to U.S. tariffs, aiming to localize the supply chain for Hyundai and Kia’s American plants and to position the companies for future demand from robotics and AI data centers.
