Carbonaceous Calculus: Europe's CBAM Broadens & Bolsters Boundaries

The European Parliament's Environment Committee has voted to extend the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to hundreds of downstream steel & aluminium products, covering 457 customs codes. The committee also backed a Temporary Decarbonization Fund starting in 2027, one year ahead of the Commission's proposal. New rules close e-commerce loopholes & strengthen anti-circumvention measures. The full Parliament is expected to adopt its negotiating mandate in September 2026.
