EUROFER has warned that Europe's steel industry cannot fully decarbonise by 2033 without affordable clean electricity and hydrogen. Director General Axel Eggert said the Commission's Emissions Trading System review sets a deadline without a credible pathway. The industry is investing to replace 35% of conventional capacity with hydrogen-ready plants by 2030 to 2032. The Commission's proposal risks losing a significant part of Europe's steel industry instead of decarbonising it.
