Epochal ENVI Edict: CBAM's Compass Corrected & Clout Consolidated
Europe's environment committee voted on 6 July 2026 to strengthen the EU's carbon border tax and expand it to more industrial products. MEPs scrapped a clause that would have allowed temporary suspension of the mechanism and tightened rules to prevent companies from dodging the levy. They also backed a six-hundred-million-euro fund to support EU exporters during the carbon transition. Both measures now head to a full Parliament vote in September before final negotiations with EU governments begin.
