During Climate Week NYC 2026, the National Priorities Project & partner groups held a packed event on how war & the military affect the climate. Young activists from six regions described the damage done to their homelands by war & extraction. Organisers said the Pentagon is the world's largest institutional polluter & that a proposed $1.5 trillion military budget takes money from healthcare, food & climate action. They pointed out that the United States gave $79 billion in weapons funding abroad over ten years but only $4 billion to climate finance. The groups are campaigning to cut the Pentagon budget & invest in communities instead.
