China has shipped its first commercial batch of iron made using only hydrogen. The 360 metric ton consignment came from a research institute line at Linyi, Shandong Province, & will become green automotive steel. Metallisation reached as high as 99.4%, while carbon content fell below 0.005%. Hydrogen replaces coal chemistry, producing water vapour instead of carbon dioxide. A much bigger plant is rising in Jilin Province, sized at 1.2 million metric tons yearly, costing around $1.66 billion.
