BioCarbon, a Sydney-based cleantech company, commercializes renewable carbon products replacing fossil carbon in steelmaking. The company secured A$293,840 Commonwealth Government grant supporting technology development. BioCarbon conducted a 75-metric-ton biochar trial at Molycop's Newcastle steel plant, producing 8,500 metric tons of steel. University of New South Wales validated the technology's performance. The company's pyrolysis process converts woody biomass waste into biochar, bio-oil & wood vinegar. BioCarbon plans production expansion at its Bulahdelah facility, targeting domestic & international markets for industrial & agricultural applications.
