BHP and POSCO have formed a partnership to develop a new hydrogen-based steelmaking technology called HyREX. This process aims to replace coal with hydrogen, dramatically cutting carbon emissions. The companies will test the technology using BHP's iron ore at a large demonstration plant in South Korea, which is scheduled to begin operation in 2028.
