ArcelorMittal invested in Electrified Thermal Solutions through its XCarb® Innovation Fund. The US company developed firebrick technology that stores renewable electricity as thermal energy at temperatures up to 1,700°C. The system can replace fossil fuel heating in steel production processes. A commercial demonstration plant is under construction in Texas for 2025 commissioning.
