The agreement provides stable, low-carbon electricity essential for facilities including Dunkirk & Fos-sur-Mer, where ArcelorMittal announced €1.7 billion ($1.8 billion) transformation investments. Electric arc furnace operations require approximately 400-500 kilowatt-hours per metric ton steel, representing tenfold electricity intensity increases compared to conventional blast furnace operations. France's nuclear-dominated grid, generating approximately 70% of national electricity at carbon intensities near 50 grams CO₂ per kilowatt-hour, provides competitive decarbonization advantages supporting ArcelorMittal's 2050 carbon neutrality objectives.
