France's Fervent Fight: Nationalising ArcelorMittal's Foundering Forges

France's parliament has advanced a bill to nationalize ArcelorMittal's two major steelworks at Dunkirk and Fos-sur-Mer. The move follows years of production cuts, blast furnace shutdowns, and workforce reductions at the facilities. Together, the plants employ around eight thousand workers directly and support tens of thousands more. The bill reflects a growing European trend of governments asserting state control over strategic industrial assets when private owners fail to meet national investment and employment expectations.
