ArcelorMittal: Fractious France's Fervent Foray into Forcible Forfeiture

France's National Assembly voted in June 2026 to nationalise ArcelorMittal's French assets for the second time, citing industrial sovereignty concerns. The estimated cost stands at €3 billion. ArcelorMittal, which employs nearly fifteen thousand people across France, rejected the move & reaffirmed a €1.3 billion investment in a Dunkirk electric arc furnace due in 2029. The bill now returns to the Senate, which had already rejected it once in February 2026.
