Dunkirk's Decarbonised Dawn & Mardyck's Magnetic Mandate

ArcelorMittal is advancing two major projects in northern France. At Dunkirk, a €1.3 billion scheme will add a 2 million metric ton electric arc furnace plus a ladle metallurgy furnace. Some €300 million is already committed, permits are filed & public consultation began on 15 October. The new route should emit about 0.6 metric tons of CO₂ per metric ton of steel, roughly two-thirds less than blast furnaces. Nearby at Mardyck, a €500 million electrical steel expansion adds two more lines for testing in spring 2027.
