Aviles' Audacious Arc: ArcelorMittal's Asturian Advance

ArcelorMittal's Aviles steelworks in northern Spain advances toward hybrid production capability following environmental approval for a 2.5 million metric ton electric arc furnace. The facility will operate both traditional blast furnace routes & electric steelmaking, utilizing feedstocks ranging from 100% scrap to direct reduced iron. An additional ladle furnace enhances capacity for premium low-carbon flat steel products. The project reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 75% compared to conventional production while maintaining employment in Asturias' historically industrial region.
