The United States declined to renew the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement in its current form at the mandatory joint review on 1 July 2026. The fifty percent Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminium from Canada and Mexico remain in place. The agreement now enters annual reviews and could expire in 2036 if no new deal is reached. The US recorded combined goods trade deficits of around two hundred and forty-three billion dollars with its two neighbours, driving Washington's demand for renegotiation.
